Principle of least effort vs. maximum efficiency: deriving Zipf-Pareto's laws

چکیده
This paper provides a derivation of Zipf-Pareto laws directly from the principle least effort. A probabilistic functional efficiency is introduced as consequence an extension nonadditivity thermodynamic engine to large number living agents assimilated engines, all randomly distributed over their output. Application maximum calculus this yields laws.

On the relation between the Maximum Entropy Principle and the principle of Least Effort: The continuous case
The Maximum Entropy Principle (MEP) maximises the entropy provided that the effort remains constant. The Principle of Least Effort (PLE) minimises the effort provided that the entropy remains constant. The paper investigates the relation between these two principles. In some kinds of effort functions, called admissible, it is shown that these two principles are equivalent. The results are illus...
متن کاملZipf and non-Zipf Laws for Homogeneous Markov Chain
Let us consider a homogeneous Markov chain with discrete time and with a finite set of states are nonrecurrent. The goal of this work is to study frequencies of trajectories in this chain, i.e., " words " composed of symbols E 1 ,. .. , E n ending with the " space " E 0. Let us order words according to their probabilities ; denote by p(t) the probability of the tth word in this list. In this pa...
متن کاملA Maximum Principle for Optimally Controlled Systems of Conservation Laws
We study a class of optimization problems of Mayer form, for the strictly hyperbolic nonlinear controlled system of conservation laws ut + [ F (u) ] x = h(t, x, u, z), where z = z(t, x) is the control variable. Introducing a family of “generalized cotangent vectors”, we derive necessary conditions for a solution û to be optimal, stated in the form of a Maximum Principle.

Many empirical size distributions in economics and elsewhere exhibit power-law behaviour in the upper tail. This article contains a simple explanation for this. It also predicts lower-tail powerlaw behaviour, which is verified empirically for income and city-size data.
متن کاملMaximum entropy change and least action principle for nonequilibrium systems
A path information is defined in connection with different possible paths of irregular dynamic systems moving in its phase space between two points. On the basis of the assumption that the paths are physically differentiated by their actions, we show that the maximum path information leads to a path probability distribution in exponentials of action. This means that the most probable paths are ...
